Once the OBF parade reached the festival grounds at Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park, the cask was wheeled into place for the ceremonial tapping of the keg, signifying the official opening of the 21st annual Oregon Brewers Festival.

This year a table barrier restrained the throngs of paraders, who banged their cups on the table.

This year Widmer Brothers sponsored the parade, and they passed the official hammer to Jamie Emmerson of Full Sail Brewing, who will be next year’s sponsor of the parade.

Then Portland Mayor Tom Potter was given the hammer.

So he could tap the ceremonial keg.

Signaling the beginning of the festival.

Mayor Potter then enjoyed the first beer of the festival.

Before others began filling their own cups.

Where the tap just remained open while everyone got a taste of the beer.
